An international team of scientists has identified potentially dangerous quantities of drive analog mania methamphetamine charge , a product widely sold in the United States and online. The study, published in the Drug Testing and Analysis , is due to a number of testing failed sport. The results revealed the presence of methamphetamine analog N α - DEPEA , which has not been tested safe for human consumption , in three samples .
" In recent years banned and untested drugs have been found in hundreds of food supplements. Started our study of madness after several athletes failed the urine test because of a new analogue of methamphetamine ," said said lead author Dr. Pieter Cohen of Harvard Medical School, USA
A workout supplement marketed as an "energy efficiency" , the hobby is manufactured by Driven Sports , Inc., and is sold in stores across the United States and internationally through the body supplements websites .
The supplement is labeled as containing the compound N, N- diethyl - phenylethylamine (N, N - DEPEA ) saying dendrobium orchid is in danger. However, although there is no evidence that this compound is found in orchids, it is also structurally similar to methamphetamine analog N α - diethylphenylethylamine (N, α - DEPEA ) , a banned substance.
The team analyzed three samples of residues Fashion N α - DEPEA . The first sample was brought to a current distributor in the United States , While the second and third samples are controlled by online retailers in the United States and Holland.
Liquid chromatography equipment used ultra- high-performance detection of the presence of N, α - DEPEA . The first two samples were analyzed by NSF International, while the third was tested at the Dutch National Institute for Public Health . The results were independently corroborated by the forensic department of Korea, which has confirmed the presence of N, α - two additional samples DEPEA fashion in a parallel investigation .
" We have identified a potentially dangerous synthetic drug on three separate samples of this dietary supplement widely available ," said Cohen. " The tests revealed quantities of N α - DEPEA more than 20 mg per serving , which strongly suggests that this is not an accidental contamination of the manufacturing process . "
As a structural analog of methamphetamine , N α - DEPEA can be both challenging and addictive , however, has never been studied in humans and its adverse effects are unknown.
The product label indicates that mania contains several organic compounds called phenethylamines . However, phenethylamines are a broad category of chemicals ranging from harmless compounds in chocolate illicit drugs produced synthetically.
" The phenylethylamine were identified in mania , N α - DEPEA , not listed on the label and which has not been previously identified as a derivative of dendrobium orchids ," said Cohen.
"If these results are confirmed by the regulatory authorities , the FDA (Food and Drug Administration of the United States) must take steps to warn consumers and delete supplements containing N, α - DEPEA sale ," said Cohen. "Our fear is that the federal government may delay the closure, causing potentially dangerous supplements that are widely available. "
